CASE STUDY: CATTLE SHED AND YARD FOR JAMES WATES
The new cattle shed and yard built for James Wates, deputy chairman of construction giants Wates Group, at Field Place, Dunsfold, was, at the time, the biggest project to be managed from start to finish by G E White & Sons. The impressive cattle shed, 42m by 21m and 5.5m to the eaves, was built to house a 50-head suckler herd of Sussex cattle, and includes feed fencing, a separate bull pen and ‘gale breaker’ roller screens at either end.

Fred Heppelthwaite turned to G E White & Sons when he needed two identical multi-purpose buildings, each 100ft by 40ft with a 5’ cantilever, at George’s Yard, Harefield, near Uxbridge.
The brief was for flexible buildings that could be used for both cattle and stabling – and Fred knew where to go. “Gary and his team have a knack of understanding exactly what we need and delivering an adaptable, bespoke solution,” said Fred. “We’ve used him for years, both for new buildings and for repair and maintenance.”
G E White & Sons took responsibility for the whole project when Pevensey farmer Ivan Massow was looking for a quality dual-use building for storage and stabling.
The 120ft by 40ft building, complete with cantilever, has sliding doors and is finished with castle boarding.
